SETTLE RAILWAY, QUARRY BANK, SKIPTON CRUISE
Discover the Yorkshire – Lancashire border with a relaxing cruise on the Leeds to Liverpool canal, a journey on the famous Settle to Carlisle Railway and a visit to Quarry Bank, one of Britain's greatest industrial heritage sites. Our hotel is the 4* Dunkenhalgh Hotel & Spa.
MONDAY DAY 1
Following our door to door service we travel north, arriving at the Mercure Dunkenhalgh Hotel late afternoon.
DTUESDAY DAY 2
This morning we head to Settle for a classic diesel train ride on the Settle to Carlisle Railway. Considered to be the most scenic rail journey in England, it winds through moorland scenery and over the famous Ribblehead Viaduct before we disembark at Kirkby Stephen.
B, DWEDNESDAY DAY 3
After breakfast we travel into Yorkshire to Skipton, known as the Gateway to the Dales. We have time to purchase lunch and explore this popular market town with its impressive medieval castle and historic cobbled High Street, before taking to the water on a relaxing one-hour cruise on the Leeds to Liverpool Canal.
B, DTHURSDAY DAY 4
Today we have the opportunity to visit Quarry Bank, a place of stark contrast where the power of the Industrial Revolution sits alongside the beauty of picturesque gardens. Discover a complete industrial community and experience the very different worlds of worker and owner, who lived and worked here side by side, what it was like to work in a cotton mill, experience heritage machinery in action and find out about the life and legacy of Samuel Greg, the founder of Quarry Bank.
B, DFRIDAY DAY 5
After breakfast we journey home, meeting our door to door service in the afternoon.
