We once again return to the popular Copthorne Hotel in Newcastle, where we enjoy an updated itinerary, whilst retaining a full day at Alnwick Gardens and Castle. This year we are joined on the coach by local guide Alan Appleton who takes us to Holy Island, then onto the Heatherslaw Light Railway for a train ride. Also included is a free day in Newcastle.
MONDAY DAY 1
After our door to door service we depart from your home area travelling to Newcastle, arriving late afternoon at the Copthorne Hotel. Tea/coffee and biscuits served on arrival.
DTUESDAY DAY 2
After breakfast we meet our guide Alan and travel to Holy Island, then depending on the train times we visit the villages of Ford and Etal, travelling between Heatherslaw and Etal on a twenty-minute single journey following the course of the River Till. The narrow gauge train is usually steam hauled.
WEDNESDAY DAY 3
Today we take the road north, past Blyth and Ashington, to Alnwick where we include entrance to the Gardens and Castle. The Alnwick Garden is one of the most exciting contemporary gardens on earth. A garden for gardeners with a design that looks to the future. Dubbed the 'Windsor of the North,' Alnwick Castle is the second largest inhabited castle in the country and has been home to the Duke of Northumberland's family, the Percys, for over 700 years.
THURSDAY DAY 4
A free day for you to explore and enjoy Newcastle. Just a short walk along the quayside from your hotel is the Millennium 'Winking Eye' bridge and Newcastle's famous quayside. Enjoy a riverside stroll before maybe enjoying lunch in a quayside pub or take a walk into the city centre for lunch and some retail therapy in Eldon Square shopping centre.
FRIDAY DAY 5
After breakfast we head for home. We will make a stop to purchase lunch, and meet our door to door service late afternoon.
