A coach tour to Northumbria & Cragside House

Northumbria is always a popular destination with Drury Holidays. This year we enjoy a new itinerary visiting the east coast including Holy Island, Seahouses, as well as a visit to Cragside House and Gardens, the first building in the world to be powered by hydroelectricity. Our hotel once again is the popular Copthorne on the River Tyne.

MONDAY DAY 1

After our door to door service we depart from your home area travelling to Newcastle, arriving late afternoon at the Copthorne Hotel. Tea/coffee and biscuits served on arrival.

TUESDAY DAY 2

After breakfast we join the coach and head to the North East coast and Seahouses for free time. We then travel past the imposing Bamburgh Castle and subject to suitable tides, drive across the causeway to Holy Island for a brief stop.

WEDNESDAY DAY 3

This morning we make our way to Cragside House, Gardens and Woodland, a truly unique visitor attraction in the heart of Northumberland. Cragside House was the family home of Lord Armstrong, Victorian inventor and industrialist. It was the first building in the world to be lit by hydroelectricity and a walk around the property reveals a wealth of ingenious gadgetry. Cragside Gardens are breath taking, whatever the season. Armstrong constructed 5 lakes, one of Europe's largest rock gardens, and planted over 7 million trees and shrubs.

THURSDAY DAY 4

A free day for you to explore and enjoy Newcastle. Just a short walk along the quayside from your hotel is the Millennium 'Winking Eye' bridge and Newcastle's famous quayside. Enjoy a riverside stroll before maybe lunch in a quayside pub taking a walk into the city centre for lunch and some retail therapy in Eldon Square shopping centre.

FRIDAY DAY 5

After breakfast we head for home. We will make a stop to purchase lunch, and meet our door to door service late afternoon.
