A coach tour to the Northumbria & Beamish

Northumbria is always a popular destination with Drury Holidays. This year we enjoy a varied itinerary visiting Beamish, a living, working museum, set in 300 acres of beautiful Durham countryside. We also include a visit to Alnwick gardens & castle and enjoy a free day to explore Newcastle.

MONDAY DAY 1

After our door to door service we depart from your home area travelling to Newcastle, arriving late afternoon at the Copthorne Hotel. Tea/coffee and biscuits served on arrival.

TUESDAY DAY 2

This morning we head for Beamish. Beamish is a living, working museum, set in 300 acres of beautiful Durham countryside. Costumed folk bring to life the Town, Pit Village, Home Farm and Pockerley Old Hall. Experience firsthand how the Industrial Revolution transformed agricultural life in the region. The buildings you see at Beamish are not replicas, but have been brought, brick by brick, from around the region and rebuilt to give visitors a real sense of history.

WEDNESDAY DAY 3

Today we take the road north, past Blyth and Ashington, to Alnwick where we include entrance to the Gardens and Castle. The Alnwick Garden is one of the most exciting contemporary gardens on earth. A garden for gardeners with a design that looks to the future. Dubbed the 'Windsor of the North, Alnwick Castle is the second largest inhabited castle in the country and has been home to the Duke of Northumberland's family, the Percys, for over 700 years. There is also the chance to walk into Alnwick town from the Gardens and Castle.

THURSDAY DAY 4

A free day for you to explore and enjoy Newcastle. Just a short walk along the quayside from your hotel is the Millennium 'Winking Eye' bridge and Newcastle's famous quayside. Enjoy a riverside stroll before maybe enjoying lunch in a quayside pub or take a walk into the city centre for lunch and some retail therapy in Eldon Square shopping centre.
