A five day tour to the Hidden Corners of Yorkshire

This tour covers a splendid variety of magnificent scenery and contrasting countryside, with quaint Yorkshire towns and villages. We also feature a ride on the Wensleydale Railway, reopened after 50 years, re-living rural railway travel as it used to be all those years ago, as well as a boat trip on the Tees to Yarm.

MONDAY DAY 1

After our door to door service we travel north and arrive at the Blackwell Grange Hotel late afternoon. Tea/Coffee & biscuits served on arrival.

TUESDAY DAY 2

We travel to Thirsk, home of James Herriot, and a chance to visit the acclaimed World of James Herriot Centre (admission not included). Afterwards we take in a piece of history with a ride on the 'Wensleydale Railway', reopened after sleeping for over fifty years. This delightful little railway travels through beautiful countryside, passing hidden farms and villages, bringing back memories of train travel in its hey day. We visit Richmond, high above the River Swale. Here you will find a castle, the tiny Georgian Theatre, The Green Howards Museum and the Richmondshire Museum, which houses the 'set' from "All Creatures Great & Small".

WEDNESDAY DAY 3

Our first visit today is Preston Park and Hall Museum. The attractive parkland surrounds the museum, and in the museum itself you will find a delightful collection of memorabilia from times gone by, with large social history collections, an armoury, toys and games. Take a walk back in time through the cobbled Victorian street and imagine life as it was in times past. At Preston Hall we join the 'Teesside Princess' and take a gentle cruise on the River Tees through beautiful countryside to the cobbled town of Yarm, famous for its location on the River and the awe-inspiring railway viaduct. In the afternoon we drive through Bilsdale - "Little Switzerland", and past the Sun Inn, which has been run by the same family for 200 years! We then pass Rievaulx Abbey and drop into Helmsley with its 12th century castle. On the way back to the hotel we journey over the spectacular Sutton Bank, giving fantastic views of the moors and across the Vale of York.

THURSDAY DAY 4

After breakfast we travel over the moors, across Blakey Ridge, through picturesque Hutton-le-Hole to Pickering, where we join the North Yorkshire Moors Railway for a steam train journey through rugged moorland to Whitby - passing through Goathland - 'Aidensfield' in TV's 'Heartbeat' - on the way. Whitby is a maritime town, fishing port and seafarer's haven, bursting with character and quite unique. We have time to wander the little alleyways and narrow streets and perhaps climb the famous steps up to the ruins of Whitby Abbey.

FRIDAY DAY 5

After breakfast we leave Yorkshire and begin our homeward journey. We meet our door to door service late afternoon.
